Johan Hendrik Louis Meijer (9 March 1809 – 31 March 1866) was a Dutch painter, etcher, lithographer, and draftsman.〔("Louis Meijer" ), RKD, 2014. Retrieved 18 December 2014.〕 He painted in the Romantic tradition and is best known for his seascapes. Meijer was born on 9 March 1809 in Amsterdam in the Kingdom of Holland (the present-day Netherlands).〔 He studied under Pieter Westenberg and Jan Willem Pieneman, and lived in Deventer, from 1841 in Paris and then in The Hague.〔Gerarda Hermina Marius, tr.
